Key Takeaways from This Post

  1. Dr. Paul Britt, sports medicine chiropractor leverages advanced technology for client assessments.

  2. He uses the motion-capture tech with its reports and 3D visuals to get objective data, engage and gain buy-in from patients, and to attract new patients.

  3. The tech also makes his practice “kind of bullet proof” with the insurance providers.

Who is Paul Britt?

Paul Britt, DC, Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP)® is the owner of Integrative Chiropractic Solutions in Gulf Breeze, Florida. The practice is located in the panhandle, about an hour’s drive from Mobile, Alabama, and 20 miles from the nearest sports chiropractor. His team includes three massage therapists and they offer a sports-oriented service that focuses on rehab, soft tissue adjustment, and pelvic health.

We recently sat down with Dr. Britt to understand more about his journey to chiropractic, how he uses Kinotek, and how it has helped grow his practice, gain new clients, and support insurance reimbursements.

Dr. Britt’s Non-Traditional Path

In the early 90s, Dr. Britt, who had been injured in Desert Storm, wanted to go to Parker University to become a chiropractor. He ended up becoming a paramedic, then a police officer, then a gym owner/trainer. He got involved with kettlebells and was  hired by a chiropractor to do functional movement screening. He realized once and for all “I'm on the wrong side of the table. I need to be on the other side.”

What is Integrative’s practice philosophy?

“We love our clients, but we don't want to adopt them. Get them in, fix them. Come back when you need to,” he said.  On average they fix people in about four visits. And, while the practice is sports oriented, “we figure out whatever helps our athletes also helps the general population.”

How was the decision made to start using Kinotek?

Dr. Britt had always embraced using technology to get objective data, especially for insurance. Until 2022, he was using another system but on the lookout for a solution that was more client friendly. He liked Kinotek’s colorful, scored reports and the 3D visuals.

How is Kinotek used in day-to-day practice?

“Let's say it's a shoulder injury. We run through a series of shoulder orthopedics. Then we take them into Kinotek. Let's get your range of motion. Let's see what it actually looks like in a 3D motion pattern and see where the hitch in your giddy up is.”

Dr. Britt explained that he set up Kinotek in the room where his radiology machine used to be, and doesn’t use x-rays anymore.

What’s the value of Kinotek to Integrative’s clients?

First, he said, Kinotek gives accurate information. Second are the visuals and the report.

“One of the things I really like is that I'm not guesstimating where the problem is, what your range of motion is, or what your movement pattern looks like.”

He described how he brings up the Kinotek 3D model to show. They can see for themselves that the movement doesn’t look right. See that little stutter step as you move? Dr. Britt explained that Kinotek is eye-opening for the patients in that they may think they are an “A” student, but the technology shows them they are actually an “F” because their movement pattern is not as good as it should be. “They are able to equate the grading system with actual issues in their movement.”

The power of client engagement and buy-in

While Dr. Britt knows something is wrong, when patients actually see “real numbers” the engagement and buy-in deepens. “They say ‘OK, there really is something going on there.’”

It works in the other direction as well. A patient doesn’t believe he is getting better, but Dr. Britt sees the improvement. “‘Oh, I see. I had 30 degrees of cervical rotation to the left before, but now I’m at 50. What you're doing is working. I believe in it. Let's keep going!’”

How Integrative uses Kinotek with insurance companies

Dr. Britt explained that insurance companies don’t want to pay when there is no “proof” of improvement other than the provider’s observation. It’s a non-issue with Kinotek. He used spine flexion as an example. “I can't really quantify that,” he said. But with Kinotek, he said it’s very hard for the insurance company to argue with real numbers that show the patient has improved. "It really helps make us kind of bulletproof against insurance issues."

How else has he used Kinotek?

“I like taking it to health fairs. I don't do a lot of them, but I took it to one and we set up a screening just for the movement assessment. We ended up with 15 patients out of that alone.

Any other comments?

Dr. Britt left us with this:

"I don't want to go back to not having it here in the office. It just makes everything a little bit easier."
